Ajna (Third Eye Chakra)
As expression becomes steady, awareness begins to deepen.
The Third Eye Chakra, known as Ajna, invites us into intuition, insight, and inner vision. It governs perception beyond the physical senses, supporting clarity, imagination, discernment, and subtle awareness.
This stage of the Chakra Series encourages us to gently turn inward, soften external distraction, and listen to the quiet guidance already present within. The Third Eye does not respond to force or striving. It responds to stillness.
Ajna reminds us that wisdom is not something we chase. It is something we uncover.
Ajna Basics
Location: Center of the forehead, between the eyebrows
Associated Colour: Indigo, representing wisdom, depth, and inner knowing
Element: Light, representing perception and awareness
Crystals: Amethyst, Labradorite, Fluorite, Sodalite
Deity: Ardhanarishvara, symbolizing balance between dualities and unified awareness
Planetary Influence: Jupiter, expansion, wisdom, higher learning
Musical Tone: A (852 Hz)
Seed Mantra Syllable: OM, the vibration of universal consciousness
Life Themes: Intuition, perception, imagination, clarity, discernment, insight, inner guidance
When the Third Eye Chakra is balanced, perception feels clear and grounded. Decisions arise from quiet confidence rather than fear. We trust our intuition without becoming disconnected from reality.
When this chakra is feeling disregarded, we may experience mental fog, overthinking, difficulty trusting ourselves, headaches, eye strain, or disrupted sleep patterns.
Emotional and Energetic Themes
The Third Eye Chakra reflects how we relate to our own inner wisdom. It influences perception, imagination, discernment, and the meaning we assign to our experiences.
Often referred to as the centre of the “sixth sense,” Ajna is not about predicting the future or seeking something extraordinary. It is about trusting the quiet guidance that arises from within. It is the subtle awareness that helps you sense when something feels aligned, or when it does not.
This energy center can hold patterns of overthinking, self-doubt, or second-guessing ourselves. We may look outside for reassurance before honouring what we already feel internally. Ajna gently shifts that dynamic.
Here, belief begins with self-trust. You recognize guidance before it is validated externally. You sense direction before it fully unfolds. Insight becomes something you live by, not something you wait to be proven.
When supported, logic and intuition work together rather than competing. Thought becomes clearer, perception steadier, and decisions feel more aligned.
Balance here does not mean always being certain. It means trusting yourself enough to listen.
Clarity is rarely loud. It often arrives quietly.
Signs the Third Eye Chakra May Be Calling for Attention
You might notice:
Difficulty trusting your intuition or second-guessing decisions
Overanalyzing situations or feeling mentally overwhelmed
Disconnection from imagination or creative insight
Frequent headaches or tension across the forehead and temples
Inability to recall dreams, or dreams that feel blurred and indistinct
A lingering sense of confusion or lack of direction
Rather than judging these experiences, consider them gentle signals. When the Third Eye is supported, dreams often become clearer and easier to remember. In restful states, the subconscious communicates through symbols and imagery that can guide us in waking life.
If dream recall feels distant or unclear, the system may be asking for deeper rest, reduced mental stimulation, or more space for stillness.
Gentle Ways to Support the Third Eye Chakra
Today’s focus is not on searching for answers outside yourself. It is about creating space to hear your own insight.
Simple ways to connect with the Third Eye Chakra include:
Spending time in quiet reflection without screens or distraction
Journaling intuitive thoughts before editing or analyzing them
Practicing candle gazing, known as Trataka, to strengthen gentle focus
Placing a cool cloth across the forehead and allowing the body to rest
Reducing overstimulation from media, noise, or constant input
Pulling a Tarot card and reflecting inward rather than seeking external validation
The Third Eye responds well to rest and hydration. Adequate sleep and water intake support mental clarity and dream recall, allowing subconscious insight to surface more easily.
Rather than striving for revelation, let this be an invitation to soften. Insight often emerges when the mind feels safe enough to slow down.
Consistency matters more than intensity. Small, steady practices build trust in your inner voice over time.
Gentle Self Massage for the Third Eye Chakra
Touch can help soften tension held in the forehead, temples, and scalp. When the nervous system begins to settle, mental clarity often follows.
You might explore:
Gently circling the temples with relaxed fingers
Applying light pressure between the eyebrows and holding for several steady breaths. Try Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing, further explained below in our recommended postures)
Massaging the scalp slowly, with or without warm oil, to ease accumulated mental tension
Placing warm palms over the eyes and resting in darkness or use a Jade Eye Mask for cooling when feeling overstimulated
Warm hair oiling combined with slow scalp massage is an ancient Ayurvedic practice known to calm the mind and support relaxation of the nervous system. This ritual encourages circulation through the scalp and can help reduce feelings of mental heaviness, creating space for clearer inner awareness.
Move slowly and stay connected to sensation. The intention is not to force clarity, but to create safety where insight can naturally emerge.
If you feel called to deeper support, Reiki and energy healing sessions at Sip for Your Soul Wellness Centre can gently support the Third Eye Chakra by calming the nervous system and encouraging energetic balance.
You deserve clarity that feels steady and embodied.
Supportive Ajna Asanas
These yoga poses and breath practices encourage inward focus and gentle stimulation of the forehead and upper spine. Move slowly and prioritize comfort.
Balasana (Child’s Pose)
Allow the forehead to rest on the mat or a block. Feel the subtle pressure at the brow center. Breathe slowly and evenly.
Benefits: Stimulates the Third Eye Chakra through gentle compression, calms the nervous system, and reduces mental tension.
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog)
From hands and knees, lift the hips upward and back. Allow the head to hang naturally between the arms without strain. Keep the head aligned with the shoulders, and hips. Be gentle, allow your knees to bend or straighten to a place of support, not strain.
Benefits: Improves circulation to the brain, releases tension in the neck and shoulders, and enhances mental clarity.
Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose)
Lie back with the soles of the feet together and knees supported. Place one hand on the belly and one on the forehead.
Benefits: Encourages deep relaxation, supports intuitive awareness, and allows the mind to soften.
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
Sit comfortably with the spine upright. Using the right hand, gently close the right nostril and inhale through the left. Close the left nostril, release the right, and exhale. Continue alternating in a slow, steady rhythm.
Benefits: Balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain, steadies mental activity, supports intuitive clarity, and calms the nervous system.
You may stay with these practices for a few breaths or longer. Trust what feels steady and supportive. Insight deepens when the mind feels balanced and at ease.
Third Eye Chakra Affirmation
Use this affirmation during meditation, Reiki self treatment, or quiet reflection:
“I trust my inner wisdom.
Clarity unfolds within me.”
Let the words settle gently behind the brow center. There is no need to force understanding or rush insight.
Ajna reminds us that awareness strengthens in stillness. Today is not about searching outward for answers. It is about listening inward and trusting what quietly arises.
Join us tomorrow, as we complete the journey by exploring connection, unity, and higher consciousness through the Sahasrara (Crown Chakra).
With clarity and care,
Nikita Orlukiewicz
